Death at Koten
Honor. Loyalty. Duty.
Click for Preview!Three vows that mean everything to a samurai. To break any one is a sin deserving of death. To break all three is an affront to everything a samurai stands for; yet at times only sacrifice can mean victory.
The assassination of a Crab Clan leader is the first in a web of events that sets the noble Imperial Magistrate Seppun Tashime on a journey through the Emerald Empire. As his investigations unfold, the true, horrifying scope of what he must face becomes apparent. Thrust into conflict with an ancient evil, will Tashime and his comrades from the Great Clans stave off disaster, or will his actions imperil the Empire even further?

A multiple award-winning game, Legend of the Five Rings tells the story of the Emerald Empire, where Great Clans vie against each other for control, while the denizens of the Shadowlands wait for any sign of weakness.

07 March Technical Errata
Wording changes to four cards effective immediately. The last three do not affect the common-sense playing of the cards, but are strictly to please the rules lawyers. Added text is bolded.
Death Ravagers (Follower, Glory of the Empire) additionally have the Nonhuman keyword, because, well, Oni should be nonhuman. All other stats and text remain the same.
Doji Hariya (Crane Clan Personality, Glory of the Empire)
Stats and keywords remain the same.
Limited: Discard a card: Create a +2F Weapon Item and attach it to Hariya
Kitsune Ando (Mantis Clan Personality, Glory of the Empire)
Stats and keywords remain the same.
Battle: If the current battlefield's province was targeted by a Recon action this turn: Destroy a target enemy attachment.
Claiming the Throne (Event, The Heavens' Will)
Before a player's turn ends this game, if the player, during that turn, destroyed a province in battle resolution, put two or more Rings into play by their own text, and gained 7 or more Honor, he may, as costs, discard the Imperial Favor and pay 10 Gold. If he does so, he wins the game.
This means that you must pay the cost of discarding the Favor (including Commanding Favor or other means) to win the game under Claiming. If you are paying the cost normally, you must control the Favor in order to discard it as a cost.

Brand Management Expansion for AEG
AEG is expanding its range of products, and reorganizing its Brand Management department.
Todd Rowland, who has been the Legend of the Five Rings Brand Manager for the last four years, is taking on the considerable responsibility of developing a completely new game line for AEG.
“It’s not like anything we’ve put out before, and it’s not a CCG. I’m dying to say more about it, but it will be under tight secrecy until the right time.”
Todd will also continue contributing to L5R with special projects and the exploration of new avenues for the line.
“I’ve always had big dreams of what we could do with the L5R property, but the day to day management of the game eats up so much time that development into new arenas was difficult. I love L5R and will still be intimately involved in the game, though not in the venues most customers are used to seeing.”
The bulk of Todd’s L5R responsibilities will fall to a new addition to the AEG family.
Justin Walsh is a former L5R world champion, and has worked on playtest and the Player Design Team. He has also consulted on graphic direction and design for the game. He now assumes the role of Legend of the Five Rings Brand Manager.
“It’s part dream come true, and part ‘Oh my god, what have I gotten myself into?’ Todd has done amazing work for L5R, and I have a lot to measure up to.”
Justin has already been at work plotting out much of the new mega game and assisting lead writer Shawn Carman on the planning of the story through Celestial.
“Shawn’s outline is fantastic, and our visions of where we’d like to see L5R are encouragingly similar.”
“I’m looking forward to the challenges and responsibilities of the position, and to working alongside some great people. We measure our success by the amount of involvement, reward, and fun that fans derive from our products, and will continue to work diligently toward those ends, delivering a unique and genuinely special experience to our players.”

March OGM
Greetings Tabletop Warriors,
The March Open Gaming Meet will be held on the 1st Saturday of the month, March 7, in the rooftop poolside cabanas of Residencia 8888, Pearl Drive, Ortigas Center, from 3pm til 11:30pm. This will be the FINAL gathering at the place - whereupon we will hold the OGM in a new venue starting April.
The OGM is an informal gathering of tabletop games enthusiasts from various groups (like Tabletop Wars, Philboardgamers, A.E.G.I.S., New Worlds Alliance, Rolling Hills Gaming Club, & UP Hobby Gaming Circle just to name a few) who try out new games and/or play favourites games, be it Boardgames, Miniature War Games, RPGs, Card Games, or Board Wargames, with friends - new and old.
We have the following house rules and expect every participant to adhere to them:
- the open-air cabana (the one to the left when you enter the pool area) is the noise-free area (where smoking is allowed)
- the aircon cabana (the one to the right when you enter the pool area) is the smoke-free area (where being boisterous is allowed).
- avoid putting food or drinks on the same table as the games (a lot of these games are not cheap or out of print, so please be considerate to the owner of the game).
- if you must eat while gaming, use a nearby empty table (if available) to eat your food (if a spare table is unavailable, eat / drink in such a way that crumbs / droplets will not fall on the game pieces).
- practice "clean as you go" - make sure that the tables are devoid of wrappers / empty bottles / etc. when you vacate it (so that the next group of players won't spend time cleaning up your mess).
- there is a 30 minute grace period at the end of the meet so the volunteer crew can pack up without being stressed out (that's why the meet time is only until 11:30pm now, the remaining 30 minutes til midnight is used for packing / clean up).
- there's a "wait to be served" policy at the cantina (this is due to some people just grabbing reserved food / drinks and just leaving the pay on the counter).
Planned Games for the MAR. OGM are:
FORMULA V 09 Season
Using the Formula D game, this will be the start of a series of 10 game sessions held from Feb. until Nov. Points are scored every session and a Driver's / Team Champion is "crowned" at the final race (the winners get a prize). The game is open for 10 player and will start at around 9pm. Look for VJ on that day if you wish to participate.
SCION: HERO RPG Session
Jay Mata is planning to run a SCION adventure, and that's all I know about it. All those interested can PM him, or just look for him at the OGM.
Legend of the 5 Rings CCG Demo
Aerol Bibat will not only be running a demo of the L5R CCG, but also handing out free decks on that day. All those interested can PM him, or just look for him at the OGM.
Once you're at Residencia 8888, please inform the Front Desk that you're there for the "tournament" at the rooftop cabana.
For all those that will be participating (ie: playing a game) we will charge a "pay-to-play" fee of 50 pesos, which is used to help defray the cost of renting the cabanas and materials used for the OGM (like the IDs). For those that want to pass by to merely watch or chat with the people there, we won't charge you anything, but we would greatly appreciate it if you purchase something at the Cantina - also, we won't say no if you want to contribute 50 pesos (or more) to the OGM funds. =)
