In The Harbinger, in the Phoenix Starter, Agasha Ueda and Shiba Morihiko will be MRP'ed to cost 5 gold. What this will do is reduce the number of people Phoenix can buy (in clan) off of their Border Keep from 12 to 6, leaving only 1F guys at 4 gold or less. This also eliminates the turn 1 two Cavalry Personality draw, which is crucial.
When you look at 4 gold Personalities across the board, you generally get a 2/2 with a keyword or two, such as Samurai * Kensai with Bayushi Eisaku. With Shiba Morihiko you got two keywords, but also a Ranged Attack battle ability. In the case of Agasha Ueda, you got too much for 4 gold, simply put.
Also in The Harbinger, there are three more MRPs. Ring of Air, Water, and Void no longer require the action to be successful in their entering play traits.
As with all MRPs, these MRPs become effective immediately upon release.

Errata to Scouting Ahead (DaK) effective on CE release
It's come to our attention that somehow, during production, the card Scouting Ahead in the Death at Koten set received a wording that allows unlimited unopposed movement of units containing Scouts. Because each Scout receives this ability on assigning, the Attacker can choose to resolve an undefended battlefield first and move all his units with Scouts there one by one. This was not the intent of the ability. It was supposed to only enable movement to and from the current battlefield.
To fix this problem before it causes major balance issues in the environment, Scouting Ahead's ability is getting the following errata, which will take effect on the official release date of Celestial Edition (currently June 22 2009).
Recon
Limited: Target your unbowed Scout: Target a province. After engaging in a battle at its battlefield, give all Scouts in your units that assigned there the ability, "Battle: Move this unit to, or home from, the current battlefield" until that battle ends.
This wording restores the intent of the card, giving the movement ability only to Scouts whose units assigned to the battlefield for the duration of the battle.

07 March Technical Errata
Wording changes to four cards effective immediately. The last three do not affect the common-sense playing of the cards, but are strictly to please the rules lawyers. Added text is bolded.
Death Ravagers (Follower, Glory of the Empire) additionally have the Nonhuman keyword, because, well, Oni should be nonhuman. All other stats and text remain the same.
Doji Hariya (Crane Clan Personality, Glory of the Empire)
Stats and keywords remain the same.
Limited: Discard a card: Create a +2F Weapon Item and attach it to Hariya
Kitsune Ando (Mantis Clan Personality, Glory of the Empire)
Stats and keywords remain the same.
Battle: If the current battlefield's province was targeted by a Recon action this turn: Destroy a target enemy attachment.
Claiming the Throne (Event, The Heavens' Will)
Before a player's turn ends this game, if the player, during that turn, destroyed a province in battle resolution, put two or more Rings into play by their own text, and gained 7 or more Honor, he may, as costs, discard the Imperial Favor and pay 10 Gold. If he does so, he wins the game.
This means that you must pay the cost of discarding the Favor (including Commanding Favor or other means) to win the game under Claiming. If you are paying the cost normally, you must control the Favor in order to discard it as a cost.

Brand Management Expansion for AEG
AEG is expanding its range of products, and reorganizing its Brand Management department.
Todd Rowland, who has been the Legend of the Five Rings Brand Manager for the last four years, is taking on the considerable responsibility of developing a completely new game line for AEG.
“It’s not like anything we’ve put out before, and it’s not a CCG. I’m dying to say more about it, but it will be under tight secrecy until the right time.”
Todd will also continue contributing to L5R with special projects and the exploration of new avenues for the line.
“I’ve always had big dreams of what we could do with the L5R property, but the day to day management of the game eats up so much time that development into new arenas was difficult. I love L5R and will still be intimately involved in the game, though not in the venues most customers are used to seeing.”
The bulk of Todd’s L5R responsibilities will fall to a new addition to the AEG family.
Justin Walsh is a former L5R world champion, and has worked on playtest and the Player Design Team. He has also consulted on graphic direction and design for the game. He now assumes the role of Legend of the Five Rings Brand Manager.
“It’s part dream come true, and part ‘Oh my god, what have I gotten myself into?’ Todd has done amazing work for L5R, and I have a lot to measure up to.”
Justin has already been at work plotting out much of the new mega game and assisting lead writer Shawn Carman on the planning of the story through Celestial.
“Shawn’s outline is fantastic, and our visions of where we’d like to see L5R are encouragingly similar.”
“I’m looking forward to the challenges and responsibilities of the position, and to working alongside some great people. We measure our success by the amount of involvement, reward, and fun that fans derive from our products, and will continue to work diligently toward those ends, delivering a unique and genuinely special experience to our players.”

March OGM
Greetings Tabletop Warriors,
The March Open Gaming Meet will be held on the 1st Saturday of the month, March 7, in the rooftop poolside cabanas of Residencia 8888, Pearl Drive, Ortigas Center, from 3pm til 11:30pm. This will be the FINAL gathering at the place - whereupon we will hold the OGM in a new venue starting April.
The OGM is an informal gathering of tabletop games enthusiasts from various groups (like Tabletop Wars, Philboardgamers, A.E.G.I.S., New Worlds Alliance, Rolling Hills Gaming Club, & UP Hobby Gaming Circle just to name a few) who try out new games and/or play favourites games, be it Boardgames, Miniature War Games, RPGs, Card Games, or Board Wargames, with friends - new and old.
We have the following house rules and expect every participant to adhere to them:
- the open-air cabana (the one to the left when you enter the pool area) is the noise-free area (where smoking is allowed)
- the aircon cabana (the one to the right when you enter the pool area) is the smoke-free area (where being boisterous is allowed).
- avoid putting food or drinks on the same table as the games (a lot of these games are not cheap or out of print, so please be considerate to the owner of the game).
- if you must eat while gaming, use a nearby empty table (if available) to eat your food (if a spare table is unavailable, eat / drink in such a way that crumbs / droplets will not fall on the game pieces).
- practice "clean as you go" - make sure that the tables are devoid of wrappers / empty bottles / etc. when you vacate it (so that the next group of players won't spend time cleaning up your mess).
- there is a 30 minute grace period at the end of the meet so the volunteer crew can pack up without being stressed out (that's why the meet time is only until 11:30pm now, the remaining 30 minutes til midnight is used for packing / clean up).
- there's a "wait to be served" policy at the cantina (this is due to some people just grabbing reserved food / drinks and just leaving the pay on the counter).
Planned Games for the MAR. OGM are:
FORMULA V 09 Season
Using the Formula D game, this will be the start of a series of 10 game sessions held from Feb. until Nov. Points are scored every session and a Driver's / Team Champion is "crowned" at the final race (the winners get a prize). The game is open for 10 player and will start at around 9pm. Look for VJ on that day if you wish to participate.
SCION: HERO RPG Session
Jay Mata is planning to run a SCION adventure, and that's all I know about it. All those interested can PM him, or just look for him at the OGM.
Legend of the 5 Rings CCG Demo
Aerol Bibat will not only be running a demo of the L5R CCG, but also handing out free decks on that day. All those interested can PM him, or just look for him at the OGM.
Once you're at Residencia 8888, please inform the Front Desk that you're there for the "tournament" at the rooftop cabana.
For all those that will be participating (ie: playing a game) we will charge a "pay-to-play" fee of 50 pesos, which is used to help defray the cost of renting the cabanas and materials used for the OGM (like the IDs). For those that want to pass by to merely watch or chat with the people there, we won't charge you anything, but we would greatly appreciate it if you purchase something at the Cantina - also, we won't say no if you want to contribute 50 pesos (or more) to the OGM funds. =)

Kotei Season 2009 - A Shred of Doubt
A new year has dawned for Legend of the Five Rings, and 2009 will be like no other you have taken part in. At AEG, we’ve been scrutinizing what we do, and most of all at what we believe we could do better. Looking back over the last fourteen years, and as we look forward to many more, we saw that we had convinced ourselves of certain things, of sacrosanct themes and traditions and tropes that we felt could never change, or even be allowed to change. The Crab will always defend the Wall. The Phoenix will always be the guardians of knowledge. The major families will always be there. The samurai will always win.
The Empire, in the end, will always be the same.
Boring.
We’d fallen into predictable patterns, entirely without meaning to do so. At the center, at the core, at the very heart of drama is change, and those sacred axioms we cleaved to as the very foundations upon which Rokugan was built had powdered invisibly to sand. What we felt were the unique and special things about L5R had become the greatest threats to its continued vibrancy. To its being alive.
2009 sees a radical shift in the storytelling of Legend of the Five Rings. Nothing is safe. Your actions, your scope - and we will be affording you more of each - will expand to encompass victory or defeat in ways that may alter Rokugan forever.
The Kotei Season begins in a little over two weeks, and it will set the scene for Celestial Edition and a completely new take on the Mega Game. As sporadic attacks in northern Rokugan explode into full-scale war, you will bear witness to the unthinkable: the first external invasion of the Empire in its history.
But the War of Dark Fire is just the beginning. Of something darker. Of something worse.
In August, at GenCon Indy, Kotei winners and other qualifiers will vie for the Empress’s favor in undertaking a mission essential to the survival of the Empire. But it won’t be anything like you imagine. The Burden of Duty is heavy, and even the worthy may bow beneath it.
Nothing is sacrosanct. Nothing is safe.
The Army of Fire forges southward, sweeping aside all resistance as the Empire attempts to marshal its defenses. With each day, reports of new calamities reach the ears of the Divine Empress, of ancestral homes burned to their foundations, of armies reduced to ash, of her people starving amid cinders and scorched earth.
Each second is now vital, every indecision a potentially disastrous shift in the line between survival and extinction. As the Empire staggers under the onslaught, the stories of its greatest heroes – of you – will change the face and outcome of the war in a way never before experienced in Legend of the Five Rings.
At this year’s Kotei, you will have a chance to put your mark on the beginning of a new interactive arc for Legend of the Five Rings. As the War of Dark Fire rages, you will win victories and perform great deeds in service of the Empire. These victories and deeds will, in turn, be reflected and honored in upcoming card and fiction releases as L5R daily closes in on its 15th Anniversary.
Every week during the 2009 Kotei Season, the Story Team will incorporate each competition result into official fiction before the next weekend’s tournaments, creating a vivid and up-to-the-minute chronicle of the events unfolding in the north.
In addition, as process allows, the Design Team will preview each and every card that derives from a Kotei victory, singling out the efforts of those triumphant as the war takes course, and heroes are born.
But the War of Dark Fire is just the beginning. Of a greater story. Of a greater game.
Every decision is vital. Every decision counts.
As we stand on the threshold of the 2009 Kotei Season, there is a new reason to attend each tournament within reach. The Celestial Edition Mega Game commences this October, and the results of this year’s Kotei tournaments will impact how the Mega Game plays out in subtle and various ways. Each victory for your clan may move you one step closer to surviving the trials ahead, if you are canny. Each opportunity lost may cost you dearly if compounded by foolish choice.
But now the 2009 Kotei Season is here. The time for doubt is over.
The struggle to save the Empire has begun.
The Empire, in the end, will always be the same.
Boring.

The Revolution
Welcome to L5R Philippines!
It's been a while, but things are changing in Rokugan.
We have a new Empress, as ordained by the Voice of the Jade Sun and the Voice of the Obsidian Moon.
The 2009 Kotei season brings to us the war from the north.
We are almost at the 15th anniversary of L5R!
Now, you maybe wondering how these events tie up to the local community scene.
First off, it's a great time to play L5R. If you are a new player or a returning player, be sure to ask your retailer about the Imperial Gift program.
The Imperial Gift is Alderac Entertainment Group’s way of saying ‘thank you’ to the loyal fans who are journeying with us toward Legend of the Five Ring’s 15-year milestone. It is also a way to introduce those unfamiliar with the wonders of Rokugan to the epic scope of the world’s greatest interactive storyline CCG. Most important of all, the Imperial Gift is a completely free expansion of never-before-seen cards available to anyone who wants it.
The Gift is split into three parts, the first part of which is currently available. And when AEG promised to put the set in the hands of each player that wanted one, we really meant it. To date, any player has been able to acquire the Gift:
• at the Samurai Championship Global Storyline Event
• from their local Stronghold Store, whether level 0 or level 10
• with any purchase from the AEG online store
Did I mention that the Imperial Gift is a FREE set? Completely FREE!
So go to your local retailers and be part of the world of Rokugan!
